Can You Be an Aggressive Poker Player?

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

One of the most recommended poker strategies is to have an aggressive game.  Aggressive players are those who would rather initiate bets or raise the already called bets instead of calling the bets or checking. Although it isn’t a strategy that should be used by novice players for it implies a series of risks, it is really effective for the skilled poker players.

The first and the most obvious advantage presented by this strategy is the increase of the pot: by betting and raising, the stake is each time larger. At the same time, it is very effective because it allows you to figure the hands your opponents have.

It can also prove to be a very useful way to play your hands since it’s already a fact that an aggressive play will make your insecure opponents fold, thus eliminating your competition from the race to the big pot. Eliminating the opponents gives you a better position in the game – it is a well known fact that position is an essential factor in the confrontation.

What really makes the aggressive play a state of the art is the fact that while it puts you in better control over your own hands it actually allows you to eliminate players who perhaps own better hands than the one you have but haven’t got your same courage of playing them as they should.
