Poker: Skills or Luck?

When it comes to playing poker, the debate skills versus luck doesn’t seem to have an end. Some people say that winning or losing at poker is only a matter of luck, while others strongly agree with the fact that luck is only a remote part of the winning process, and that a player’s skills are the most important aspect.

While luck does play an important role when it comes to the way the cards are dealt, it has nothing to do neither with the way you play your hands nor with the way that you trick you opponents into calling your bets or into raising the pot in your favor. If you are an inexperienced player, than yes, luck is your best shot. But that is why professional players always win when confronted with beginners. What is really essential in a poker game when you’re after the big pot is your ability to deceive your opponents, to create their profile, to depict their betting pattern, their attempts to bluff, or even the illicit strategies they resort to in order to get the big pot.

That is why you can never rely only on your luck when it comes to playing a game with such a high stake as poker. Luck must always be doubled by experience, intelligence and playing skills.
