Betting Rules When Playing Poker

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Poker is a complex game that is mainly characterized by the fact that its players bet during the game. The betting is influenced by the hand a player has at a given moment during the game play. The poker pot consists of the money that player bet until a specific moment. Each poker game begins with some obligatory bets from every player at the table, each of them trying to win the pot. The poker rules they follow when doing so, refer to five actions that are available for them:

Check – If no one placed a bet yet in the current betting round then the active player can choose the check option, this way avoiding to initiate the betting round but maintaining the right to play the current hand, without giving up the pot.

Bet – If the cards are great for a bet then the active player can choose this over checking.

Fold – Folding represents the act of giving up to any interest related to the current pot.

Call – If the current round includes an already made bet then the active player can choose to pay the price to continue the race for the pot.

Raise – After a bet, the active player can either pay the amount requested by the last player or can raise the amount of money. Every other player that wants to continue has to pay the same.
